Seahawks tickets are the hottest in town

SEATTLE (NEWS1130) – The hottest tickets in town these days are for out of town.

Local Seahawks fans are snapping up seats at CenturyLink Field in Seattle as the team gets set to play the New Orleans Saints in a huge NFL playoff game this weekend.

The 70,000-seat stadium is sold out and after-market tickets are getting more expensive by the day on the open market. Regardless, Vancouver ticket brokers say demand for Seahawks tickets is huge.

“I’m getting calls from a lot of my US customers because they can’t find seats there,” says an incredulous Kingsley Bailey at Vancouver Ticket Service.

“Right now, you’re looking at about $350 for an entry level ticket, just to get in. On the high end, I saw a suite available for $27,000. I’ve seen some quality club seats going at about $3,000 apiece,” he tells News1130. “Fans want to see a winner and they will pay to see a winner. That’s all there is to it.”

Prices vary by ticket broker.

And if you know some excited Seahawks fans here, you should see Seattle!

“Everyone here is very excited but also very nervous. The reason is that we seem to be the favourites in this game and that places Seattle sports fans in a very unusual position,” says Corwin Haeck, a reporter with KOMO Newsradio.

“We’re not usually favoured to win and when these big games come up, we almost always lose,” he adds.

Flashback: the 2005 Seattle Super Bowl loss, the Mariners 2001 MLB playoff disappointment and the 1996 NBA finals, when the Seattle Sonics couldn’t get past Michael Jordan and the Bulls.

This time, odds-makers in Las Vegas are picking the Seahawks to win by eight over the Saints.

Haeck says the Seahawks playoff game is also a big deal for the Seattle economy.

“In terms of economic impact, I heard a crazy figure just a week or so ago: an NFL playoff game brings $9-10 billion in economic activity. Certainly, restaurants and hotels are pretty excited about all this action.”

Seattle “tailgaters” are also prepping for the big day Saturday.

“People tailgate not just the day of the game — they start lining up and camping out a couple nights before the game. Food is a big deal around here so they’ve also invented a new hamburger to sell at the stadium on Saturday. It’s called The Beast: two big patties, a slab of ham, two pieces of bacon and cheddar cheese. And because Marshawn (“Beast Mode”) Lynch loves Skittles, you get a bag of those on the side,” laughs Haeck.

The Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints kick off the second round of the NFL Playoffs at CenturyLink Field at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday.
