VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Despite a decidedly average season so far, there are still plenty of people still on the Canucks bandwagon. But a new poll finds fans aren’t exactly optimistic about the team’s playoff chances.
Research done by Angus Reid Global finds six out of 10 people in BC still support the team, with 57 per cent think replacing Alain Vigneault with John Tortorella behind the bench was the right move.
But Shachi Kurl with Angus Reid says fans aren’t too optimistic the current roster will get past the second round of the post-season. “Only nine per cent said that it was very likely and only 36 per cent said that it was somewhat likely.”
Kurl also tells us many feel it’s time to shake up the roster a bit.
“We also asked ‘Does the team need to make a big trade of one of its major players in order to be successful?’ About half of the biggest fans and supporters are saying ‘Yes, that is needed’ — 55 per cent.”
When it comes to Tortorella’s 15-day suspension for trying to storm into the Calgary Flames’ dressing room earlier this month, about half of fans felt the punishment from the NHL was “just right” in severity.
