Still no Child Poverty Reduction Plan from Victoria

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The second annual Family Day long weekend has many people wondering how the province will address calls to deal with Child Poverty. Victoria is pointing to the economy.

Minister of Children and Family Development Stephanie Cadieux says the best way to bring BC down from the top spot in the country when it comes to child poverty is boost the job market and “build our economy so that the private sector is creating jobs that families can access and support their own families.”

But BC still remains one of only two provinces without a child poverty reduction plan–and there’s still no promise to create one.

“We really believe that the best way to alleviate poverty is to help people to engage productively with the job market,” says Cadieux.

One in five kids in BC don’t have proper winter clothing or go to school hungry.
