Young Canadians the biggest target for phishing scams: poll

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Fraudsters like going after young Canadians in an effort to use their financial information for personal gain.

A new poll on phishing also finds British Columbians are the most sought after online.

Quebecers receive the fewest phishing messages at 77 per cent, while here in BC, we get the most at 89 per cent.

But Pollara Strategic Insights has found 92 per cent of Canadians under 35 have been targeted by scams seeking bank account information, passwords, card numbers, and social insurance numbers.

Most people say they would report phishing attempts if they knew how, but they end up just deleting or ignoring the messages.

Pollara recommends you report the scams to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
