Hansen and Lack help Canucks snap losing skid

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Jannik Hansen broke a goalless tie in the third period, and Eddie Lack made 20 saves for the shutout as the Canucks opened their post-Olympic schedule with a 1-0 win over St. Louis.

The Canucks avoided losing an eighth straight game with the result. They headed into the Olympic break riding the longest losing streak of any team in the NHL.

Vancouver showed plenty of determination in the game, but once again struggled with a lack of finish.

With the score tied at zero, Hansen was hit with a pass in stride by Tom Sestito and then accelerated through the Blues defensemen before snapping a shot past Jaroslav Halak with 8:47 remaining in regulation. It was Hansen’s 10th goal of the season.

Lack made the start for the Canucks as Roberto Luongo continues to adjust from his return from Sochi, Russia, and he was rock-solid. At one point during the second period he made a few tough stops with St. Louis on the powerplay and was showered with chants of his name by the sold out crowd at Rogers Arena. The shutout is Lack’s third of his career.

Henrik Sedin and Kevin Bieksa returned from injuries for the Canucks, while Ryan Kesler sat out with a hand injury suffered at the Olympics.

Vancouver is back in action on Friday at home to the Minnesota Wild.
