Four injured in chairlift accident at Crystal Mountain

KELOWNA (NEWS1130) – A chairlift accident at Crystal Mountain Resort in the Okanagan has sent at least two people to Kelowna General Hospital in serious condition Sunday afternoon. Their injuries are unknown.

An air ambulance was called in just after noon when a cable on the lift came loose, sending one of the chairs crashing into a tower before hitting the ground 25 feet below.

Ragnar Haagen with Okanagan news partner Castanet says several other people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

“And I also heard there were 15 or so on the lift at the time, but those people were not injured and were able to be brought down from the lift safely,” says Haagen.

The resort hasn’t released any details about how the cable came loose.
