Jensen’s star is shining bright for the Canucks

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Canucks playoff chances are quickly fading and things are looking grim if you are a die hard fan. With just ten games left on the schedule, Vancouver is 10th in the Western Conference, but all the team’s ahead of them have games in hand.

There has been one bright spot over the last two weeks, and it is the play of rookie Nicklas Jensen. Since being recalled from the Canucks farm team in Utica, Jensen has been one of Vancouver’s best player.

He scored last night against Nashville. The goal was his third in seven games and he now has points in four straight contests.

Head Coach John Tortorella has taken notice and has been very happy with the youngsters play.

“He doesn’t think about, he just plays. It seems like right now in the short bubble that he has played with us he just allows himself to play. I watched him at the end of the game when he brought the puck back in to our end zone. I am not crazy about the play, but he has some balls to keep control of the puck.”

Jensen has found chemistry on the first line with Henrik Sedin and Alex Burrows. Burrows snapped a season long goal drought last week, and Sedin finally found his passing game after going 15 games without an assist. Jensen credits Tortorella for giving him a chance.

“It is huge. The fact that the coach gives me that opportunity is really good and appreciated. At the same time you have to show up and show that you want to be in those situations.”

The Canucks only have one game in the next six days. The team meets up with Buffalo at Rogers Arena on Sunday. Puck drop is at 5 p.m..
