ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – A task force put together by the City of Abbotsford will work towards creating short-term and long-term solutions to the homelessness problem in the community.
Mayor Bruce Banman says city staff did their research before recommending the best candidates for the task force. “What we wanted was a very well-rounded organization. If you notice, there’s also BC Housing and the Fraser Health Authority… we went to all of the stakeholders that are involved with homelessness.”
Banman says the goal is to create a community-wide response plan.
“We’re looking to go at this from a more holistic point of view. The goal of the task force is to find short, medium, and long-term solutions for homelessness in Abbotsford.”
The task force will begin meeting in early April; it will bring suggestions to council for approval as they come up.
Banman says one of the first things they will look at is the pros and cons of a ‘Dignity Village’ style homeless camp.
