SAR teams warning hikers that winter conditions continue

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – In a blog posted on its website, Coquitlam SAR says weather conditions in the spring can fluctuate from sun to rain to snow.

That can mean trouble if anyone is on a trail on Eagle Ridge or Burke Mountain where the deep snow pack can last well into June.

Last year, 12 people were rescued there over three months and all apparently showed the same pattern of getting lost because of the snow.

Crews say Eagle Ridge for example only has three trails that can take hikers down safely and it rapidly turns to very steep cliffs and gullies that are extremely dangerous.

They say if a hiker gets into trouble they shouldn’t go downhill, call for help, and stay put.
