Windows smashed at downtown Tim Hortons during lunch hour

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It was a scary lunch hour for people inside a Tim Horton’s in Downtown Vancouver today.

A man apparently became angry and started throwing chairs through the restaurant windows at Davie and Howe Streets over the noon hour.

Three windows were smashed; a fourth window was damaged but was not broken through. Shattered glass sits on the ground outside, as well as inside the restaurant.

Witnesses say before the violent incident, the man pulled the fire alarm and argued with staff behind the counter.

“I was just trying to calm him down and keep him away from the staff,” explains a man who tried to intervene. “I was just there to make sure the women didn’t get hurt, get everyone out of there and phone 911.”

A police van outside the restaurant was shaking, as someone banged loudly on the doors from inside.

Employees have been speaking with officers, but police have yet to provide a statement.
