Will the Canucks keep Torts as head coach?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – What does the future hold for Vancouver Canucks head coach John Tortorella?

With a new president in, a GM out and the season officially over for the team, Tortorella’s fate is the next big question likely to be answered.

“There’s plenty of blame to go around,” says Rick Dhaliwal in the News1130 Sports Centre. “The GM that was fired, Mr. Gillis, everyone’s piling up on him these days as it is. The blame can be gone right from ownership to the GM to the coach and to the players; a ton of them underachieved this year. So, when you hand the blame around, I don’t think it all lies at the feet of Tortorella.”

President Trevor Linden is going to be talking to the players and Tortorella; Dhaliwal says a decision on the coach’s future will likely be made sometime this week.

“Obviously not many people think he’ll be back. I mean, obviously, it was a horrendous season. With a new president coming in, he’s going to want a new GM, who might want a new coach. So, the odds don’t lie in his favour to come back.”

But Dhaliwal adds you never know what the organization will decide.

It was an awful season for the team that ended in an awful way. A 5-1 win in their last game of the season was overshadowed by Daniel Sedin being taken off the ice on a stretcher after a hit from behind.
