Nanaimo baby unscathed after scary accident

NANAIMO (NEWS1130) – A Nanaimo baby was hit by a car and then pinned underneath after a driver ran a marked cross walk Tuesday afternoon.

The baby was in a stroller getting pushed by its mother when the car hit them both, sending the baby flying.

The infant was then pinned says RCMP constable Gary O’Brien.

“The force of the impact flew the baby and the car seat out of the stroller and was wedged under the car that actually hit them. It (baby) was wedged under the car, in its car seat, underneath the car.”

People who saw the accident then sprang into action.

“Fortunately there were five or six people nearby who came by and lifted the car up, dragged the baby out of its car seat expecting the worst,” says O’Brien.

“They saw the impact, they saw that the baby was wedged underneath. At least five or six came forward, lifted the car and then one of the persons dragged the car seat out.”

But, the baby was fine except for some minor bumps and bruises along with the mother.

The driver is now facing charges.
