Whitecaps salvage a draw with Galaxy thanks to late goal

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Kekuta Manneh tallied on a strike from outside the box in the 86th minute to earn the Vancouver Whitecaps a 2-2 draw with the Los Angeles Galaxy in front of 21,000 fans at BC Place.

Manneh, a second half substitution, took a pass from Darren Mattocks and quickly hit a rocket into the right side of the goal. The sold out crowd erupted as the goal was enough to pull the ‘Caps out of a two-game losing skid.

The Whitecaps had to rally from behind twice in the game to earn the single point. Los Angeles held a 1-0 lead after the first half thanks to a goal off the head of Stefan Ishizaki in the 38th minute.

Mattocks pulled Vancouver even in the 67th minute, as he powered his way through a Galaxy defender on the way to a loose ball, which he was able to knock in for his second goal of the season.

Just 10 minutes later the visitors reclaimed the lead as a ball into the box was headed over to Robbie Keane by Rob Friend, and Keane easily popped in his second goal in two weeks.

The teams were wrapping up a home-and-home series, as the Galaxy beat Vancouver 1-0 in Southern California last weekend.

The result gives Vancouver a 2-2-3 record, including a 2-1-1 record at home. BC Place has been sold out for all four home matches so far this season.

The ‘Caps head out on the road for their next match as they visit Real Salt Lake next Saturday.
