VPD getting massive number of tips related to reported dognapping

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Police Department inbox is overflowing with emails following a dognapping last week.

Over 1,000 emails have come in after French bulldog, Chloe, was stolen from a downtown tattoo parlour shop last Thursday.

UBC Psychologist Dr. Stan Koren says because of our inate need to nurture, our connection to our pets is very strong.

He says it is very difficult for an owner when their pet is stolen. “It is almost as though your child was kidnapped and dogs fulfill the functions of a family member.”

Koren says the grieving process is similar. “They do show much of the same patterns of psychological stress and grieving when they lose a pet as when they lose a family member.”

Despite the many emails, the VPD says the investigation to find Chloe is ongoing.

Video surveillance surfaced online showing a woman running out the front door of The Fall Tattoo and Artists Gallery with Chloe in her arms.

Another dog owner had her chihuahua stolen from the Olympic Village last Tuesday. She had the dog returned to her last Sunday after reportedly paying a man $500.
