Many feel like work is just a job, not a career

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Do you feel like your job is ‘just a job,’ or is it a career?

It turns out most of us fall into the first category.

A new poll — done by Harris Poll for Careerbuilder.ca — finds 58 per cent of us feel that way. A lot of us also say we plan to change jobs this year.

Nearly one quarter of Canadians polled say they’re going to be making a change — that is up to 23 per cent this year from 17 percent last year.

Fifty-seven per cent of people say they are happy at work — the top reason is liking who we work with.

But, dissatisfaction is up by about 15 per cent this year — one in five people say they are not happy with your job.

Among the top reasons for not feeling valued include salary and not liking your boss.

The poll asked what the best ways are to increase employee retention.

Boosting salaries came in at number one, followed by increasing employee recognition and increasing benefits.

More than 400 full-time workers in the private sector were polled between November 6th and December 2nd of last year.
