Home resales up in April, but down year-over-year: CREA

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Canadian home resales rose 2.7 per cent in April from the previous month after a harsh winter in much of the country.

But an industry group says there was a slight (0.3%) drop in the more closely watched year-over-year figure.

The Canadian Real Estate Association says the national housing market remains balanced between buyers and sellers.

Home prices were up 7.6 per cent from a year earlier to an average of $410,000. But the Vancouver and Toronto markets are so expensive that without them, the price increase would have been nearly three points lower.

The actual unadjusted price of a resale home in Metro Vancouver last month was $801,000, up 8.3 per cent from a year earlier as sales rose 15.9 per cent.
