Plans underway to return mother in Amber Alert case back to Alberta

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Two missing girls who were the subject of Amber Alerts in both BC and Alberta, have been found safe and sound with their mother at a campground north of Hope.

Plans are now underway to return Trina Meisel to Alberta, where she will face two counts of abduction contrary to a court order.

Police learned the trio could have been in the area after someone spotted her SUV in Abbotsford.

“A general duty member was patrolling in the area of the Anderson Creek Campground in Boston Bar and located Ms. Meisel and the two children,” says Major Crimes Inspector Tony Hamori. “I’m told that the arrest was uneventful and that the children were safe and that Ms. Meisel has cooperated with police so far.”

The girls are now in the care of the children and family services. They were taken to hospital as a precaution.

“There were no obvious signs of any injury or anything like that,” says Hamori.

Family has been sent to meet up with the children and return them to Alberta.

Meisel is currently at the Hope RCMP detachment, where she is being questioned by investigators. She’ll then be returned to High River, Alberta, likely by sometime Friday, where she will face two counts of abduction contrary to a court order.

According to Hamori, Meisel was upset over a recent custody decision involving her two daughters.

“She had made certain statements to some people. I won’t go into it in verbatim, but indicating that the situation could become fairly desperate for her,” he explains. “Custody was awarded to a former common-law husband. I believe he is a step-father.”

Hamori was unsure if it would be the step-father or extended family that would be going out to meet the children.

Meisel reportedly had told some people if she couldn’t have her children then she didn’t want anyone else to have them.

Facebook and social media log-ins were pursued in the investigation, but it was a tip from the public that police said eventually led them to the trio.
