A look at how Eugenie Bouchard became a household name

By

MONTREAL (NEWS1130) – Eugenie Bouchard will probably find it a little hard to fall asleep tonight. After all, the tennis star is looking to make history tomorrow morning, as she tries to become the first Canadian to win a Wimbledon singles title.

Making the finals has shot her to stardom across Canada and around the world.

Ralph Platz is a coach at the National Tennis Centre in Montreal. He coached Bouchard until 2010 and expects big things from her tomorrow on centre court.

Platz isn’t surprised at what she has been able to accomplish, adding she is professional, focused, and disciplined.

“She always tries to do things right. Whether that be having good manners in a crowd, doing school work, being in the gym, being on  the court… It is always, always very professional,” he tells us.

“Because of Eugenie’s game style, if she takes the serve early enough and doesn’t let the spin bother her — which I pretty much know that she is going to do — it could go her way. She certainly is going to have a lot of people cheering for her.”

Platz says the juniors he is coaching at the National Tennis Centre in Montreal have been watching every match she and Milos Raonic play. He adds the duo’s success is creating a hunger and desire he has never seen in our young players before.
