Prince of Pot to await deportation starting Wednesday

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Canada’s Prince of Pot is counting down the final days of his five-year sentence for selling seeds online.

Marc Emery will begin waiting for deportation on Wednesday.

Emery’s wife, Jodie, says Marc will be transported to a private prison in Louisiana that day where he’ll wait for word on when he can return to Canada.

Jodie says he can’t wait to get back and fight for the legalization of marijuana. “We shouldn’t see anybody put behind bars when they’re peaceful, non-violent people like Marc. We certainly shouldn’t be spending taxpayers dollars, which are extraordinarily limited already, locking up people and destroying their communities.”

She says while the US has made great strides in decriminalizing marijuana, Canada seems to have taken a few steps back. “It’s disappointing, of course, when the government shut him down in Canada it did have an impact on the Canadian activism movement. But, again, we did see success in the United States and that’s where reform had to happen first before Canada could follow suit.”

Jodie says they don’t know when Marc will finally plant his feet on home soil, but it will likely be in the Windsor/Detroit area this summer.
