Marijuana stores in WA State set to open tomorrow

By

SEATTLE (NEWS1130) – We already head south for all sorts of things: milk, cheese, gas, and even air travel. But would you ever consider adding pot to the shopping list for your next trip to the US?

Up to 20 shops in Washington State are set to start selling marijuana as early as tomorrow. They will be allowed to open at 8 a.m., if they are ready.

Early this morning, the first licences were given out. Once they receive the licences, stores can give their orders to growers.

The growers have to wait 24 hours before sending the pot.

Bob Leeds is a grower; he and others have been working hard to get ready. “The full past week, we’ve been working 12 to 15 hours a day.”

“There could be anywhere up to 10,000 people [wanting to buy]. Unfortunately, the downside to that is, we only have ten pounds of product,” says Amber McGowen, who owns Cannabis City in Seattle.

Sellers are concerned the demand will be too much for them to keep up with.

People in Washington State voted in favour of legalizing and regulating marijuana during the 2012 federal election.
