Drop in BC bud exports expected due to new Washington State law: activist

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – With the sale of marijuana now legal in Washington state, will the black market trade of BC bud across the border come to an end?

Pot activist Dana Larsen with Sensible BC says Canadian weed will still make its way down south but there will be less of it. “Exports from British Columbia are really drying up. I know a lot of people who are getting out of the marijuana growing game now because the profit is not in it anymore.”

That’s not a good thing according to Larsen. He says the drop in exports affects our financial system. “However you feel about the marijuana trade, it’s an important part of our economy and the BC government should be taking a serious look at what’s happening in Washington, how it’s going to affect us here.”

He says with the export market shrinking that means less revenue for growers and sellers who also spend money and pay taxes.

His solution is to make pot legal in our province and to capitalize on the sale of it here.

“Economically marijuana is a big part of economy in British Columbia and it’s one of the main engines of our economy. We should be working to legalize it as soon as possible so that we can take advantage of legalization and take this underground market and bring it above ground where it can benefit all British Columbians. If we don’t get on this soon we’re going to miss the boat.”
