Heat wave begins in the Lower Mainland!

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you like it hot, you’re in the right place! The temperature is about to soar over the next few days.

“If you’re heading west towards the water’s edge, it’ll be 25 degrees today, 27 this weekend, and maybe 28 or 29 early next week. Those are all beach temperatures,” says News1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate.

“A short ways inland, away from the water — East Vancouver and into the Fraser Valley — it’ll probably be 30 degrees today and then well into the low-30s for the next several days in a row,” he adds.

Russ thinks there’s a good chance of some local records being broken over the next few days.

“Maybe not today because we’re just getting going,” he admits. “It’s been sunny all week, but this is really Day One of the big-time warmup.”

He adds the heat starts to get a little bit more oppressive through the tail-end of the weekend. “You’ll really start to feel the heat with a stronger sun again. [There’s a] high UV Index.”

“At night, it will take forever to cool down. The nighttime temperatures might be in the upper teens,” says Russ. “Even looking at next week, with numbers upwards of 32 degrees in the local forecast, there’s a pretty good chance some records will come down from the wall of fame.”

And Russ says it’ll be an absolute scorcher in the Southern Interior. “It’ll be 38 to as much as 40 degrees for parts of the Okanagan and all the neighbouring districts. That really does carry on until the middle of next week.”
