Lions clash with Roughriders in Regina

REGINA (NEWS1130) – It hasn’t been the finest of starts for the BC Lions this season. Turnovers, injuries, and an inconsistent offensive line has led to the team’s flat 0-2 start. It doesn’t get much easier Saturday night, as BC takes on the defending champion Saskatchewan Roughriders (1-1) in Regina at 6:30pm.

Much has been made of Kevin Glenn’s run in place of the injured Travis Lulay. Glenn has tossed six interceptions in two games this season, compared to just seven all last year at the helm of the Calgary Stampeders.

Glenn has displayed veteran calm during the week, however.

“For the most part, it’s about having positive plays.” Glenn said this week at practice.

“The turnovers are what they are, but winning on first down to put yourself in a better situation on second down.” the quarterback added.

The Lions know Mosaic Stadium isn’t an easy place to play, but Glenn knows there’s plenty of season left to get something started.

“We’re travelling up this hill to get to the top. We’re still fighting. We’re still fighting and pushing forward.”

Hunter Steward becomes the latest player to make his debut on the Lions’ maligned offensive line Saturday night.

Meanwhile, the Roughriders are looking to bounce back after suffering through a 48-15 loss to the Toronto Argonauts in week 2. Gone is defensive back Dwight Anderson, while the Riders brought in former 1,000 yard running back Jerome Messam, who is expected to dress for the game tonight. He will back up Hugh Charles, getting the start in place of the struggling Anthony Allen.
