Weekend heat wave broke records across BC

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You could be excused if you haven’t slept well lately, thanks to this record-breaking heat.

News1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate says it was scorching hot all around BC yesterday.

“In fact, we saw 34 degrees in Pitt Meadows; that was our local hot spot,” explains Russ. “But even just outside of the area… Agassiz was 32.6 degrees and Hope was 32.5… that was a record. Heading on up to Whistler, it was 36 degrees, breaking the old mark of 33 set in 1996.”

“Really, you couldn’t go in any direction and not get scorched across the Interior. Leading the way was Kamloops at 40.7 degrees, breaking the old mark set in 1961,” he notes.

“Chilliwack was 35 degrees, Port Alberni 36. All across the province, we saw new high marks. It was 40 in Pemberton, and 38 in Kelowna,” adds Russ. “Even in the far north, new records were set in Smithers, Mackenzie and Terrace.”

He tells us the heat wave isn’t over yet.

“For today, we have clouds this morning, but it will be clearing. It’s mainly sunny this afternoon and 27 degrees. It’s sunny tomorrow and sunny again on Wednesday, when it’s close to 29 for a high. So, we’ve still got some sizzle in the forecast.”
