Lotto Max ticket worth $52 million bought in Langley still hasn’t been cashed in

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You could be a millionaire and not even know it!

Over four months ago, a jackpot of over $50 million was won in a Lotto Max draw and no winner has come forward. The interest alone on unclaimed tickets could be worth a fortune.

Michael Hopkinson is an accountant with Ernst & Young LLP in Vancouver. He says the winner has lost a lot of cash by not coming forward months ago.

“At a five per cent interest rate, which would actually be a pretty safe return on that large of a sum, they would be losing right around $1 million of interest income. They would have already [lost that much] by not having it a conservative mutual market fund that is paying that much.”

Laura Piva-Babcock with BCLC says the winner bought the $52-million ticket in Langley, and has until March 14th, 2015 to collect.

There are no taxes or service fees on lottery winnings, so the person would see the full amount. This jackpot is tied as the biggest-ever won in BC.
