IIO handling crash between RCMP cruiser and van in Langley

By

LANGLEY (NEWS1130) – An officer and a family from Alberta are hurt after a serious crash on Fraser Highway and 268th Street in Langley this afternoon.

The Independent Investigations Office is taking over the case because it involved a police cruiser.

Kellie Kilpatrick with the IIO says it happened at about 1:30. She says the Langley RCMP officer had just switched on his lights and sirens.

“A marked police vehicle was travelling code three in response to an unrelated call. It was at that time that his vehicle collided with the civilian vehicle.”

There were four people in the van, including children, some of them were rushed to hospital.

The Langley RCMP officer is also injured.

She says the investigation could take anywhere from four to six months to determine what caused the collision. “There were a number of witnesses so we will be interviewing those witnesses, obtaining any GPS or any in-car video if that’s available.”
