Pride week festivities getting underway this weekend

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s Vancouver Pride Week, with activities beginning Saturday.

Things start with a 10 kilometre pride run in Stanley Park, and then the Pride Proclamation takes place on Monday at City Hall.

It’s all a buildup to next Sunday’s parade, one of the biggest events in the city, says Caryl Dolinko with the Vancouver Pride Society, who says the event continues to grow.

“In 2005, just over 100,000 people showed up,” Dolinko says. “Next Sunday, we actually expect about 650,000-700,000 people showing up. So it has grown significantly.”

Last year, the event attracted over half a million people.

“It’s going to be huge again this year,” Dolinko says. “We want people to get there early, get your spots and drink enough water.”
