Mourners pack funeral home for wife of former Sikh temple leader

DELTA (NEWS1130) – A funeral home in Delta was packed with mourners to say goodbye to the wife of a former Sikh temple leader Sunday.

Narinder Kalsi was taken off life support last week after she was beaten in her home.

Surrey City Councillor Barinder Rasode came to pay her respects.

She says seniors, young people and representatives of the Brookside Temple crammed the room, to hear the tributes.

“She was described as somebody who would always take on other people’s challenges and problems and help them through. She was described as a not only a kind and loving person, but as somebody who took great care to help others.”

She believes many people were drawn to pay respects because of the violent nature of Narinder’s death.

“I think there were a lot of women who are involved in many organizations to help end domestic abuse who were in attendance to show respect for her and how she died in such a tragic way.”

Kalsi’s husband, 66-year-old Baldev Kalsi, has been charged with second degree murder.

He was the president of the Brookside Sikh temple but was removed when the charge was laid.
