Construction trench collapses in Surrey, worker rescued

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – A construction worker had to be rescued after being buried by a collapsed trench.

Crews demolished a house at 104th Avenue and 158th Street and were digging the trench when it came down.

Jay Gill watched the entire thing happen. “The walls just caved in on him. There’s a trench they dug 15 feet down, I don’t know what happened, but maybe there was vibration and it went right on top of him.”

Gill says the man wasn’t harnessed, but was conscious when crews pulled him from the dirt.

The worker has been taken to the hospital.
