New Powell Street overpass creating problems for a business in the area

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The year-long Powell Street overpass project in East Vancouver is complete, but it looks like the headaches continue for at least one business in the area. One merchant is unhappy with some of the changes.

Christine Morton, owner of “Christine Lingerie” points out a new bike lane has taken out about 10 parking spaces in front of her business.

She says couriers don’t care much for it either. “The bike lane has a very high divider, dividing it from the rest of the traffic, and so there is nowhere to stop for the trucks if we get deliveries, so we’ve also lost that delivery area.”

She tells us there is no designated commercial loading zone.

“It’s going to be a little difficult. Our FedEx [and] UPS drivers, people like that, that regularly, are already complaining. You know, what are they going to do? So we’ve yet to see what happens.”

Morton is happy to see traffic moving through Powell Street again, and is planning a sample sale for next month to thank customers for their patience.
