Wildfire crews on high alert, as hot, dry conditions are expected to continue

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Fire crews will continue to be busy in as hot and dry weather is expected to continue in our province over the next few days.

Fire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek says rain last week brought some relief in southern parts of BC, but that was just temporary.

“There were also many areas of the province — particularly, central and northern BC, as well as East Kootenays that didn’t see much rain at all, if any,” he says, noting areas are already at an elevated fire hazard level.

Skrepnek says the current hot and dry conditions across BC are expected to continue. “That is going to put us back into a very precarious situation, from a wildfire perspective.”

Among the largest fires still burning is the Chelaslie River fire, which is still listed as 52,000 hectares.
