Vancouver Aquarium getting support from some former mayors

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Some former Vancouver mayors are lending their support to the Vancouver Aquarium in its quest to keep whales and dolphins.
Their endorsements come as the Park Board reviews its program.
The Vancouver Aquarium faced a number of emotional outbursts during special Park Board meetings, including claims that whales and dolphins are suffering in pain.
That’s why four former mayors, Mike Harcourt, Philip Owen, Larry Campbell and Sam Sullivan have fired off support letters talking about the virtues of conservation, tourism and education.
Sam Sullivan calls the aquarium ‘Vancouver’s largest cultural institution.’
“They are clearly experts. They are well-motivated. They are one of the most important tourist destinations,” he says.
Mike Harcourt says Vancouver doesn’t turn its back on nature and the aquarium is vital to the future of the oceans and life there.
It could be weeks before the Park Board makes a final decision.
