BC Lions set for battle in Alberta against the Stampeders

CALGARY (NEWS1130) – It will be a tough test for the BC Lions tonight in Alberta. The Leos are taking on the undefeated Calgary Stampeders. Calgary is trying to start the season 5-0 for the first time since 1995.

The Stampeders hot start to the season has been very impressive, especially because they have not being playing with the league’s reigning MVP. Running back Jon Cornish remains sidelined with a concussion that he suffered in week one.

Lions Coach Mike Benevides says the Stampeders have a different look with out the all-star in the lineup.

“There is no doubt they are a different team without Jon Cornish. Jon is an impactful player and a dominate player. It changes the DNA of their football team. The core beliefs of their program has not changed, but not having Jon certainly gives them another look.”

While Travis Lulay returned to practice this week he is still not ready for game action after off-season shoulder surgery, so Kevin Glenn will start at quarterback for the Lions.

“You have to approach them with patience, and that is the way they play,” says Glenn. “They bend, but they don’t break. That is the way you have to play as an offense. The more you bend, but don’t break the more you can move down the field and you can score. When you try and do something out of your element that is when it seems their defense capitalizes on it.”

Running back Stefan Logan thinks the Lions just need to play their brand of football and they will emerge victorious.

“We have to focus on us. We need to focus on what we need to do to get ourselves back in to getting those wins. As we all know, we have a great team, a great future ahead of us and we have to go out there and work hard and get this victory tonight and come back home with a win.”

Kick off is at 7 p.m..
