Surrey RCMP dealing with crash involving one of their own

SURREY (NEWS1130) – There was a serious rollover crash in Surrey last night, involving a member of the RCMP.

Investigators say the cruiser’s lights weren’t on and they don’t think he was going to a call. They don’t yet know if the officer was speeding.

Staff Sergeant Blair McColl explains they were called out at about 10:15 a.m. to King George and 76th Avenue. “The police car hit the cement divider and ended up rolling over onto the roof and sliding northbound into the southbound lanes, coming to rest at about 77th Avenue.”

The jaws of life had to be used to get the officer out of the car.

“It’s unclear as to what the police officer was doing or where he was going. The police officer was taken out of the police car… and taken to hospital, where he was examined. He was found to have minor injuries, released, and sent home,” adds McColl.

The officer has been with the force for two years.
