Abbotsford family battling several health issues asking community for help

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Imagine being newly wed, pregnant, and then diagnosed with a devastating illness. An Abbotsford family struggling with multiple health issues is asking you for a hand.

Three months ago, Tim Rempel’s pregnant wife Alissa was diagnosed with breast cancer, which has rapidly spread throughout her body. Immediately, doctors induced their son Hunter’s birth at 35 weeks.

And Rempel has his own health issues: he suffers from optic nerve atrophy and Type 1 Diabetes and says he’s in a battle to keep his driver’s licence as his vision deteriorates.

Now, the family is trying to raise $50,000 to build a barn so he can stay near his family during the day, after securing a $75,000 loan and permits to raise organic chicken.

“The barn’s going to probably cost roughly $130,000 or $120,000, so the $50,000 is for the rest of it,” he tells us.

Rempel wants to work at his property so he can help look after his son while his wife goes through chemotherapy.

“[The money] will also help us, if I’m off work for the time I’m building the barn. It will help to pay for the bills and our food, and… so I can stay at home and help Alissa with the baby,” he explains.
