CARSON, CA (NEWS1130) – Landon Donovan and Marcelo Sarvas scored first half goals, as the Los Angeles Galaxy took a 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS action on Saturday night. The loss was Vancouver’s first in its past seven games.

The Whitecaps came into the match riding a 321-minute shutout streak, but that came to an end just over four minutes in, as Donovan was left unmarked at the left side of the goal. Donovan’s sixth goal of the season put the Galaxy ahead 1-0.

Los Angeles made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute. Robbie Keane had a great chance in front of the net, but he misfired, however, the ball came to Sarvas who knocked it in past David Ousted.

The Whitecaps have now lost just five times this season, which is tied for fewest in Major League Soccer.

With the win, the Galaxy moves seven points clear of Vancouver for fourth place in the Western Conference. The fifth-place Whitecaps lead Portland by two points. The Timbers will face the Seattle Sounders on Sunday.

Vancouver finished the match with 10-men after defender Johnny Leveron was given a straight red card for a hard tackle in the 90th minute.

Newcomers Kendell Waston and Mauro Rosales made their Whitecaps debuts off the bench. Waston was recently signed to help replace the retired Jay DeMerit, while Vancouver acquired Rosales in a trade with Chivas USA earlier this week.

The Whitecaps will now begin to prepare for a huge match next weekend, as they host Portland on Saturday.
