Lions look to deliver on a guarantee

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130)  – A visit from the Saskatchewan Roughriders at any time of year brings a bigger crowd to BC Place. Now that team president Dennis Skulsky and the Lions organization has declared Sunday a ‘Guaranteed Win’, it makes things all the more interesting.

The Lions (5-3) and Roughriders (5-2) don’t like each other, and both are simply trying to keep pace with Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Calgary in the ultra-competitive west division. The Riders and Lions occupy the last two spots in the division respectively.

Saskatchewan has gone unbeaten in four since the Lions knocked them off at Mosaic Stadium on July 12th. BC has won three straight games after an uneven 2-3 start.

Kevin Glenn will get the start at quarterback for the Lions on Sunday afternoon.

“He’s the one that right now, gives us the best opportunity (to win).” said BC head coach Mike Benevides.

“He’s gotten the most reps. You take a look at his performance in the last month and a half, he’s played really good football.”

With all the hype this week surrounding the guarantee, Kevin Glenn is more focused on facing another quality opponent out of the West.

“It was already exciting, because it was a western team. Everybody sees how the west is playing right now. Every game is going to be exciting and important” Glenn said.

Glenn will get an extra push out of the backfield, as Andrew Harris has declared himself ready to play. Harris missed last week’s game in Toronto with an ankle injury.

The Lions are a mere .500 football team at home this season, with a record of just 2-2.

While Saskatchewan has won four games in a row, they’ve done so with defense. Darian Durant and the Rider offense has scored just one touchdown in its last two games.
