Suspect in Saturday’s fatal shooting wanted on Canada-wide warrant

CALGARY (NEWS113) – New details are emerging about Saturday’s fatal shooting in downtown Calgary.

Calgary police took three people into custody Monday and are looking for a fourth (see photo) in relation to the shooting. All three suspects are known to police in Toronto.

Investigators say they picked the trio up at a hotel Monday and they are now being questioned.

“As a matter of fact, one of the suspects that we have in custody and are interviewing right now is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for attempted murder out of Toronto, Ontario,” says Sergeant Michael Cavilla, who calls this crime “reckless and tragic.”

Cavilla adds it is still unknown what or who the gunman or gunmen were aiming at. There may have been multiple guns used and police believe shots came from inside a vehicle.

No weapons have been recovered and no charges have been laid at this time.

The victim, 26-year-old Natasha Mohamed Farah, was from Toronto, although police still believe the shooting was not targeted.

“Nothing has come to light to the investigative team so far that would indicate there was a target in the close proximity to the victim,” says Cavilla.

Farah had reportedly moved to Calgary less than a year ago and was working in the city.

She was standing outside of a bar early on Saturday morning when she was shot and killed.
