MERRITT (NEWS1130) – Dozens of tourists were hurt, including six critically, when a bus rolled over on the Coquihalla  Thursday.

RCMP Sergeant Norm Flemming says 56 passengers suffered some sort of injury when the southbound bus crashed at about 3 p.m.

It happened about 30 kilometres south of Merritt and about a three-hour drive northeast of Vancouver.

In addition to the six passengers in critical condition, Flemming said 15 others were seriously hurt and the rest suffered bumps, bruises and cuts.

Kelsie Carwithen of BC Emergency Health Services says six helicopters and 19 ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

Flemming says the cause of the accident is under investigation, adding the bus was the only vehicle involved.

Daniel Parsons, who was on his way home from work when he happened upon the scene, says the bus looked like it had rolled over along a slight curve in the highway.
