Many Vancouverites feel City Hall has culture of secrecy: councillor

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’re voting in Vancouver’s upcoming election, is transparency at City Hall a key issue? Councillor Adriane Carr thinks it should be.

“We have too many last-minute reports at City Hall. I think that those reports need to be put out well in advance,” she tells us.

Carr points to a lawsuit filed against the City. “The case that’s just been in front of the law courts around the Yaletown tower.”

In that lawsuit, there are claims of a secret deal between the City and the developer of the proposed tower project near Emery Barnes Park.

Carr says Vancouverites are in the dark and suspicious of what’s really happening.

“They believe that there is a possibility that there are done deals with developers who have friends with Vision and this, of course, completely undermines any kind of decision-making process that’s transparent and democratic.”

Carr feels this proves the need for transparency and accountability at City Hall.
