Prime Minister Stephen Harper ready to act against ISIS

LONDON, ENGLAND (NEWS113) – Prime Minister Stephen Harper is condemning the terrorist group ISIS after confirmation they have beheaded a second American journalist.

Harper made the comments at a business luncheon in London as he prepares for tomorrow’s NATO summit in Wales, which will focus on the ISIS threat as well as the crisis in Ukraine.

The Prime Minister says the west can’t stand still in the face of the naked brutality shown by these Islamic extremists.

Stephen Harper says Canada is ready to act and prepared to play a full part in the battle against ISIS.

“The strategy in Iraq, I think, has taken shape. It’s fairly clear. It’s less clear in Syria where it’s not really clear whose side we’re on, although we certainly know ISIL is an extreme threat,” he explains.

This comes as Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird is in Baghdad in an unannounced visit.

He is promoting ethnic tolerance and committing $15 million to help with Iraqi security, the struggle against the ISIS insurgency, and to prevent terrorists movements between Iraq and Syria.

US Vice-President Joe Biden says America will follow the terrorists who have killed two American journalists “to the gates of hell.”

Speaking at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Maine, Biden said the Islamic State militant group responsible for beheading Americans James Foley and Steven Sotloff won’t intimidate the United States. “If they think the American people will be intimidated, they don’t know us very well.”

British Prime Minister David Cameron says Great Britain will “never give in to terrorism.”

“There is no way to appease it. The only way to defeat it is to stand firm and to send a very straightforward message: ‘A country like ours will not be cared by these barbaric killers.'”

Cameron spoke after threats by the Islamic State to kill a British hostage if the U-S does not halt airstrikes against the militant group.
