Steve Moore glad to no longer be burdened by 10-year legal ordeal

TORONTO (NEWS1130) – Steve Moore says the 10 years since his NHL career came to an abrupt end have been very difficult, but he is glad to no longer be burdened by an unresolved legal case.

Moore’s multimillion-dollar suit against Todd Bertuzzi and the Vancouver Canucks over the infamous on-ice attack in 2004 was settled shortly before it was set to go to trial.

Moore released a statement today saying the injuries he sustained, the years he spent trying to return to the NHL, dealing with the loss of that career and the ensuing legal case have been “long and trying.”

He says “while nothing replaces the loss of one’s dream,” he is grateful to be able to move forward.

Bertuzzi’s lawyer confirmed the settlement two weeks ago, but Moore’s lawyer, Tim Danson, says that it’s his opinion that there was no “binding and enforceable settlement until the language of the settlement documents was agreed to by all parties,” which he says happened today.

Moore’s lawsuit alleged that the Canucks had put a bounty on his head following his check, as a Colorado Avalanche rookie, that left Canucks captain Markus Naslund injured.
