BELLINGHAM (NEWS1130) – If you fly Allegiant Air out of Bellingham, expect to pay more if you don’t print off your boarding pass at home.
It now costs an extra $5 to have an agent print a ticket.
Travel expert Claire Newell says this is becoming the new norm. “I’ve been seeing this in Europe with the low-cost carriers for the past few years. So, I have expected this.”
So will airlines like Air Canada or WestJet start charging fees like this?
“I don’t suspect we’ll see it soon. But I do suspect that in the future, it will come, at least for some portion. Like Air Canada — they have Air Canada Rouge, their lower-cost [option.] I think you’re going to see it there,” predicts Newell.
“It obviously is less labour-intensive for them. That’s why you’re now going to be charged $5 if you want to go to the airport, show them your passport, get your boarding pass printed, and check everything in,” she adds.
