The BC Lions roar in to Ottawa for their first game against the Redblacks

OTTAWA (NEWS1130) – Their records are very different, but the result is the same. The BC Lions and Ottawa Redblacks are last in their respective divisions. The Leos enter tonight’s game coming off a bye week. At 5-4, the Lions are in the basement of a very competitive West Division. The Redblacks are 1-8 and have lost six straight games, dating back to mid-July.

The Lions have plenty to be excited about entering the game. Quarterback Travis Lulay will make his first start of the season now that his shoulder is completely healed.

Lulay insists it is just another game.

“I don’t want to downplay it, but I don’t feel nervous. I have the confidence of the guys around me and I think that is the biggest thing. I think when you are a rookie, the guys are looking at you wondering what you are going to bring to the table. This team knows me, they know how I play the game and they know how competitive I am.”

Lulay spent the first ten weeks of the season recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.

“I am excited. This is why you play the game. I don’t take a minute of it for granted. I think if I learned anything during that timeframe is that I feel fortunate to be able to do what I do and I love being out here with the guys.”

Lulay has seen some action over the last few Lions games, but running back Andrew Harris says he is excited to have the 30-year old lead them on to the field tonight.

“He has definitely brought a different vibe to the offense. He is so solid, especially with the playbook and knowing things. There is a certain confidence and certain aura that comes with Travis Lulay. We are ready to see what he can do tonight.”

As for Ottawa, the expansion team is still trying to find its footing in the CFL. Despite their abysmal record the team is only a few wins out of a playoff spot. Harris says the Leos can’t take them lightly.

“They have hung in with teams until the fourth quarter. They play hard for all four quarters and the game has just slipped away from them a number of times. Their record could be flipped in a lot of situations, so we have to attack them like a number one team.”

Today’s kick off is at 4:30 p.m..
