Chevron’s Kitimat LNG project doesn’t have green light yet

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Chevron’s CEO says there are numerous hurdles to be cleared by the company’s Kitimat LNG project before it can get a green light.

John Watson says there are many advantages Canada has in terms of its liquefied natural gas industry, such as a shorter shipping distance to Asia.

However he says there are challenges too. “The locations where LNG will be built are remote. The transportation cost to bring the gas from BC and Alberta are significant.”

Chevron says it needs a new partner for its project after its first partner, Apache, announced plans to get out of the LNG business earlier this year.
