IHIT investigating two suspicious deaths

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – Just after 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Burnaby RCMP were called to a home on Carrigan Court, near Lougheed Centre, and found a dead man outside.

The initial call to police described the incident as a home invasion, but when police showed up, there was no one else there.

The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Abdul Sarwari, who lived in the apartment complex.

“The victim’s cause of death has not been confirmed and the death is considered suspicious. IHIT currently has carriage of this investigation and are looking to speak with any witnesses who may have been in the area during this time,” say Staff Sergeant Jennifer Pound.

An autopsy is scheduled in the coming days to confirm the victim’s cause of death.

Yesterday’s suspicious death in New Westminster has now been deemed a homicide.

A body was found at a halfway house around Nanaimo and 12th Street late in the afternoon.

Last Door Recovery Centre issued a statement and identified the victim as one of the workers in the centre.

“IHIT is working closely with the New Westminster Police Department to determine what lead up to the victim’s death.  We are currently canvassing the area, speaking with witnesses and processing the scene,” says Staff Sergeant Jennifer Pound.  “IHIT is aware that the victim’s family have been notified of his death through various channels, however, IHIT has yet to speak with the family and until we do confirmation on his identity will no be released.”
