Abbotsford police search for girl seen being carried off into bushes

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Police in Abbotsford, say a report of a missing young girl may not have been a case of stranger abduction as feared.

Officers began searching for the child last night after a driver reported seeing a girl between 6 and 10 years old lying on the side of the road in an industrial area and being carried off into the bushes by a man in his 40s.

Police spokesman Constable Ian MacDonald says officers and search and rescue crews haven’t located the pair, but he now believes the man might be the girl’s parent or guardian. “All those reports to this point indicate that the girl was in good spirits and the man did not appear agitated.”

MacDonald says a number of witnesses say they saw the child and the man together in the area earlier in the evening, and the girl appeared to be in good spirits. “That said, we still have this outstanding report from this witness, who sees the girl laying on the ground, and then subsequently this male scoops her up.”

Police are still hoping to hear from the pair, though, as no one has reported seeing them after the driver called the police.

The girl is described as wearing a pink jacket, while the man is described as a Caucasian male with curly brown hair and wearing a dark jean jacket and jeans.
