Canucks beat Edmonton in final pre-season game

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks wrapped up their pre-season with a 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena, giving them a 5-2-0 record in their seven-game exhibition schedule.

Chris Higgins opened the scoring just 79 seconds into the game as he got free for a partial breakaway and lifted a backhander past Ben Scrivens.

The Canucks added to their lead a little over two minutes later. Daniel Sedin banked a shot off Scrivens and in from behind the net to make it 2-0.

The Oilers got on the board early in the second period. A terrible giveaway in front of the Canucks goal set up Nail Yakupov for the first Edmonton tally as he wired a wrister past Ryan Miller.

Vancouver restored its two-goal lead when Radim Vrbata scored his third pre-season goal, but Edmonton responded quickly with a Will Acton goal late in the second period.

Miller stopped all 12 shots he faced in the third period, as he made 27 saves in total to preserve the victory.

The Canucks will now prepare for their regular season opener as they visit the Calgary Flames on Wednesday.
