TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Down three cents, or 1.21 per cent, to $2.44 on 9.1 million shares.

Spartan Energy Corp. (TSX:SPE). Oil and gas. Down 30 cents, or 1.41 per cent, to $21.01 on 7.1 million shares.

Teck Resources Ltd. (TSX:TCK.B). Miner. Down $1.24, or 6.41 per cent, to $18.09 on 5.2 million shares.

Cenovus Energy Inc. (TSXCVE). Oil and gas. Down 72 cents, or 2.53 per cent, to $27.75 on 5.1 million shares.

Talisman Energy Inc. (TSX:TLM). Oil and gas. Down 44 cents, or 5.13 per cent, to $8.13 on 4.8 million shares.

Athabasca Oil Corp. (TSX:ATH). Oil and gas. Down 40 cents, or 8.06 per cent, to $4.56 on 4.8 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Canadian Tire Corp. (TSX:CTC.A). Retail. Up $3.59, or 3.07 per cent, to $120.67 on 373,884 shares. The company plans to invest an average of $575 million annually over the next three years on business improvements while buying back an additional $400 million of its class A non-voting shares by the end of 2015. Its shares rose $3.42 to $120.50 after hitting a 52-week high of C$120.53 earlier in the session.

Taseko Mines Ltd.(TSX:TKO). Miner. Down 10 cents, or 5.29 per cent, to $1.79 on 139,147 shares. The company said Thursday that problems at its Gibraltar mine have forced temporary changes that will reduce copper production and increase costs in the short term. The company said it has temporarily shifted operations to lower-grade ore deep in the open pit mine due to due to stability issues along higher walls.
