Another SkyTrain slowdown leaves riders frustrated

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you took SkyTrain out of Surrey this morning, you probably wish you didn’t.

The system suffered another slowdown this morning between Columbia and King George stations. The switch problem led to delays on the Expo line for about 20 minutes.

Many riders say they’re losing confidence in the system.

“I can’t really rely on it,” says one man. It’s unacceptable. People need to get places and should get there on time. I used to walk onto SkyTrain with a smile on my face. Now, when I leave, it’s a frown.”

“It’s an old system. I get it,” says another rider. “I just feel like the priorities are more on making things look pretty rather than on running properly.”

One woman tells us she’s not very impressed with how the transit authority has explained the slowdowns. “TransLink kind of blames the customers for a lot of the delays, which I thought was an interesting marketing strategy.”

“I’m going to be late for work, guaranteed — all the time. I plan ahead and it’s still stops. People block the trains. I mean, it’s kind of user related, but it’s also technical issues,” says another.

This latest service disruption pales in comparison to others in the past few months, some of which have shut down large portions of the system for hours.
